January 27th, 2021Joey PrebysJoey Prebys
  • Transactions below $900 do not require ID, only a name and a mobile phone number.

  • Transactions exceeding $900 require additional identification.

Buying Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies at a Bitcoin ATM is the easiest way to convert your cash to crypto safely and fast. To ensure you get your Bitcoin as quickly as possible, you must come prepared to the Bitcoin ATM. If you have read our guide on How to Use a Bitcoin ATM, you will know that you need your name, mobile number, cash, and a crypto wallet to use a CoinFlip ATM. But, depending on the size of your transaction, you may be required to submit additional identification. This article breaks down everything you need to know about Bitcoin ATM ID requirements.

Do you need an ID to use a Bitcoin ATM?

Yes and no. CoinFlip breaks down transaction limits into 4 tiers (minimum amount is $20) all requiring different amounts of identifying information: $20-$900, $905-$2,995, $3,005-$8,000, and $8,005-$16,000.

  • $20-$900 - For Bitcoin ATM transactions below $900, you only need to enter your name and mobile phone number.

  • $905-$2,995 - For transactions between $905 and $2,995, you must register as a CoinFlip customer. You can do this at the Bitcoin ATM. To register, you must submit your name and mobile phone number in addition to a government-issued photo ID. To present your photo ID, place the ID card in front of the camera on the Bitcoin ATM. The machine will also take your picture to verify your identity.

  • $3,005-$8,000 - For transactions between $3,005 and $8,000, you must be a registered CoinFlip customer. Registering as a CoinFlip customer entails sharing your name, mobile number, government-issued photo ID, taking a selfie, plus your social security number. To make transactions within this range, you will first need to call CoinFlip's 24/7 customer support line at (773) 800-0106 before completing your transaction.

  • $8,005-$16,000 - To make transactions greater than $8,005 and less than $16,000, you must become a Preferred Client. To do so, you must call (877) 757-2646 and request a limit increase. Transactions of this value require a name, mobile phone number, photo ID, a selfie taken at the machine, and social security number, in addition to signing a digital contract and submitting a second form of photo identification.
